The big 2024 game review/retrospective

Now, to preface this, the title is a bit of a lie. I don’t know every game i played during 2024. I don't know how many games i played through the year, or in some cases even what they were. Between a multitude of platforms, countless demos, and free itch.io titles that took as long to play as they did to download, and even quicker to remove from my hard drive. In this slurry, some are bound to be forgotten, and some simply aren't enough for me to feel interested in writing something about them.

I will attempt to categorize the games into a couple categories. Much like any categorizations i make, they are as much for personal structuring as they are for external use, so take them with a grain of salt. The actual reviews may vary significantly in length, content, and quality, largely depending on how much i liked the game in question and/or how much i have to say about it. These are in the end personal opinion and as much as i'd like to, i don’t have any professional or educational background in media analysis. I will try to mention if there's spoilers in a review, but i’m not perfect. Disclaimers aside, here's a summary and links to each category, as well as a full alphabetical list if that’s more your thing or you want to look for a specific game.

This category consists of side scrolling action games, whether they be metroidvanias, shmups, or else.

Platformers
Jump from one platform to the other, usually with a catch or two. Or fifty.
